Panama - ARGO at the Canal
Thursday, December 02, 2010
Amphibious ARGO fights Mosquitoes in Panama.
For years, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has been challenged to control possible Malaria outbreaks caused by mosquitoes. The ACP is an entity of the Government of Panama and has exclusive charge over operation, administration, management, preservation, maintenance, and modernization of the Canal
It has been impossible to access all areas of the Panama Canal through conventional vehicles. New abatement programs and further expansion of the canal resulted in the purchase of two amphibious 8x8 ARGO Frontier 650.
The all-wheel drive ARGO can carry up to six passengers and equipment into flooded areas with soft underground ground or thick vegetation, and can move from land to water without vehicle preparation. The reliable ARGO allows the ACP to efficiently run the mosquito abatement operation and support the Panama Canal expansion.
When it comes to off-road mobility, the ARGO fits the bill perfectly: The amphibious, multi-passenger off-road vehicle offers a cost-effective platform for insect abatement, search and rescue, firefighting, law enforcement, oil clean-up, disaster control, defense, backcountry asset management, snowplowing, beach patrol… the list goes on and on. For improved versatility, the all-season ARGO can be equipped with optional accessories such as rubber tracks, convertible top, receiver winch, windshield, bilge pump, and a lot more.
Engineered and produced continuously since 1967, every ARGO is backed by decades of unrivaled experience in the design and manufacturing of off-road vehicles. Today, ARGO is the world’s leading manufacturer of lightweight amphibious vehicles and innovative off-road platforms.
ARGO vehicles were provided to Canal Authorities by: SWAMPBUSTER S.A.
